Morbid Angel - Altars Of Madness (1989) Altars of Madness is Morbid Angel's debut album. The remastered version (released 2003) includes several remixed versions of songs from the album. 2006 saw a dualdisc release with the 2003 remaster on the audio side and 'Live Madness 89' recorded at Nottingham Rock City on the 14th of November 1989 on the DVD side. In the album's liner notes, the band dedicates the album to the underground and to speed, death, and black metal fans everywhere. The cover artwork was created by Dan Seagrave. Several of the tracks had appeared on earlier releases: "Reincremation" and "Involuntary Slaughter" were re-recorded from the Reincremation demo, while "Infecting the Crypts", "Mass Obliteration", and "Jesus Wept" appeared originally on the Human Waste EP. The album was later re-issued by Displeased Records and Century Media Records. The album now has a considerable reputation within the death metal genre; along with Suffocation's Pierced From Within, many credit it with revitalizing the genre during the mid-90s and adding an unprecedented influence on the brutal death metal and technical death metal subgenres.
